CITY tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has acquired the prestigious Kampala Parents’ School and retained the 75 teachers.

Sources said the staff has been notified about the changes at the private school, rated among those for well-to-do parents.

“I have taken over the school with immediate effect. But there should be no cause for alarm because I will retain all the professional staff who have been running it. I will not make any major changes there,” Sudhir said.

Sources said the day school would be re-named Kampala Parents School 2004. It will be under Premier Academy, a private firm owned by Sudhir.

The school’s founder/principal, Edward Kasole, would neither deny nor confirm the changes yesterday. He met the staff yesterday.

“I shall soon call you (press) to inform you about the new developments. Otherwise, I am still here not only as the principal but also managing director,” said Kasole, who is also Buwekula MP.

Sudhir has appointed a seven-member board to run the school, with Samson Muwanguzi, the chairman of Crane Bank, as the board chairman.

Board members are Jyotsna Ruparelia (Sudhir’s wife), Andrew Kasagga (owner of Zzimwe Construction), Godfrey Kirumira (businessman), Tom Mugenga (director Crane Bank) and Azim Tharani (managing director of Sudhir’s Goldstar Insurance).

“Sudhir has bought 50 new computers for the school and promised to improve on other facilities there,” a source said.
Sudhir also owns Kabira International School in Bukoto, Kampala.

Other sources said Sudhir also plans to build a private secondary school for day scholars on a 14-acre piece of land in Bukoto.

Kampala Parents has been among the top performing primary schools in the country. It has 1,800 pupils, who pay sh390,000 per term.
The school is located on Naguru Hill off Lugogo bypass.
