UGANDA needs sh20m to compete in this year’s Davis Cup in the former Soviet State of Moldova, in July.

“The association is looking for these funds to send a side of four players and a coach,” Cedric Babu, Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) secretary said.

“We have had several meetings with our preparations committee and we are seeking ways of raising this money.”

Uganda will be making its seventh appearance in the Euro/Africa Group IV that they have been in since 1997.

Uganda will have to battle Armenia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Botswana, Malta, Mauritius, Moldova and Rwanda to be among the two nations to qualify to the next stage that is Group III.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) tennis player of 2003 Charles Yokwe led last year’s team that had youngsters Ronald Semanda, Patrick Ochan and Patrick Olobo in Nigeria.

The teenage stars who had a dismal display on their debut will contest for slots on this year’s team in the qualification matches that will be organised by UTA.
The schedule is yet to be released.
