UGANDA’s top player Godfrey Uzunga added the Cranes Bank champion’s challenge to his growing collection of accolades last Sunday at Kabira Country Club when he beat James Odong.

Uzunga, battled for three hours returning with a 7-5, (4-6) 6-4, 6-3 victory to claim his second tennis career win having scooped the Nomi Mukwano title two months ago.

Uzunga, who has been out injured for a month, capitalised on an erratic Odong who most of the game was making unforced errors.

“It is always good to return from injury like this,” Uzunga said after scooping the sh1.5m tournament.
“Odong is always a hard opponent and he gave me a good run today.”

The winner walked away with sh0.15m while Odong got sh50,000 in a tournament sponsored by Crane Bank.

It attracted the top ten tennis players in the country. However seed two Charles Yokwe, Shaban Lwanga, Mustapha Lwanga, Christopher Baagala and Patrick Olobo did not participate because a colleague had lost a child.

The tournament attracted Andre Negri, Cedric Babu (UTA secretary), Ronald Semanda, Henry Muyanja, Moses Motiti and John Oyet.

The Bukoto club has organised three events — two tennis and one squash meets. It hosts another squash event soon.
