KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni is in China for an official visit at the invitation of the Chinese government. The President, accompanied by his wife Janet, left Entebbe on Tuesday. China is opening a two-day international conference aimed at finding ways to reduce world poverty. Museveni will deliver a keynote address at the conference.

Court gets new boss
KAMPALA — Margaret Tibulya has been posted to Buganda Road Court as Chief magistrate. Tibulya, who has been heading the Mbarara Chief Magistrates’ court as replaces Frank Nigel Othiembi who has been appointed high court registrar in charge of education and public affairs.

Four inmates escape
MASAKA — Four suspects on criminal charges on Monday night escaped from Lyantonde Police Station cells. Amos Ssemakula, Abubaker Ssembuusi, Mathias Bwetunge and Emmanuel Ssenkindu broke the door of their cell. Lyantonde OC station, ASP Enock Rwakiiru said they were investigating the incident.

Two thugs shot dead
KAMPALA — Two suspected burglars, including one who had just been released from Luzira prison were gunned down as the Police foiled a burglary in a city suburb yesterday. Hassan Byar-uhanga and Moses Semwanga of Kabowa, Rubaga division, were shot dead after breaking into a residence in Mulira zone, Bukesa.

Jinja man lynched
JINJA — A mob in Buwaji, Budondo sub-county, lynched a suspected goat thief on Monday night. The mob reportedly sprinkled the victim’s body with petrol and set it ablaze. The Police identified the dead as Robert Katooke. The district CID officer, Hillary Odoch condemned the mob action, saying the Police was looking for the culprits.
