THE sh1.5b project aimed at cleaning the city has began.
The firm that won the tender recently started constructing pedestrian walkways, shop verandas and road shoulders, the City Engineer, Abraham Byandala, said.
He said the pavements and pedestrian walk ways are being constructed by Prime Contractors Ltd. under the Local Government Development Progra-mme.
He said Kampala City Council’s (KCC) target is to reduce dust in Kampala.
Byandala said Prime Contractors is currently working at the Clock Tower, Queens Way round-about, Nile Avenue, Kintu road, Crested Tours, Shimoni and Siad Barre.
He said KCC would identify more areas to construct pavements.
The Inspector General of Government had queried the award of the tender to Prime Contractors but KCC cleared it and gave the contractors a go ahead to continue with the construction.
