UGANDA’s top batsmen will face the top bowlers as the national cricket team starts the second two-day trial game at Entebbe oval today.
Nineteens players including U-19 World Cup stars Raymond Otim, Patrick Ochan and Ronald Ssemanda are currently going through drills ahead of their second ICC intercontinental tie against Kenya July 23.
Uganda beat Namibia by five wickets in their inaugural ICC tie in Windhoek to get on top of the Africa group table (Uganda, Kenya and Namibia).
Joel Olweny, Benjamin Musoke, Frank Nsubuga and Nand Kishore will be put to test when they play against Kenneth Kamyuka, Richard Okia, Tendo Mbazzi and Baig Akbar.
“I want to believe many of the batsmen have tremendously improved their skills. They have learnt to spend more time on the crease and many play for a purpose which was rare before,” national coach Tom Tikolo said.
Meanwhile, eastern region schools start their qualifiers next week with St James taking on Lord Meades SSS at Jinja SSS oval.
Five schools including Teso College and Busoga High will take part in the one-month event.
