The defaulters who are more than 150 owe KCC over sh2.6b. Among them is health minister Brig. Jim Muhwezi’s property on Malcom Avenue with a default of sh5m.

Also on the list are Calebs International owes sh5m, Muljhubai Madivani & Company Limited sh5.5m, Emka Investment sh8.8m, Casements sh10m, Uganda Bookshop sh11m, Spear Motors sh23m, National Water and Sewerage Corporation 18m.

KCC said the defaulters should immediately contact M/s Joka Investments, the contracted agent and settle their obligations by May 30.

KCC also said the Local Government Act and the Local Government (rating) Decree, state that every local authority shall levy such rates as it may determine on the basis of the ratable value of hereditaments within a rating area.

The decree allows the local authority to sue the defaulters if after service of the demand notice, the amount is not paid within 14 days.
