KAMPALA — The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Jotham Tumwesigye, yesterday discontinued a corruption case against George Khauka, a Police officer in charge of Kalerwe Police post. It was discontinued due to lack of evidence.

10 remanded
kampala — The City Hall Court yesterday remanded 10 sex workers in Luzira Prison for using obscene language and gestures in public. Prosecution alleged that they were found conducting themselves in a way that amounted to breach of peace. The sex workers denied the charges and the case was adjourned to June 15.

Veterans sue
KAMPALA — Over 200 UPDF veterans have dragged the Government to court, seeking compensation for illegal eviction from Kibaale Game Reserve. Lt. Ben Kachope on behalf of 206 others, alleged that in 1992 armed UPDF officers forcefully took over their settlements without giving them an alternative and destroyed their property.

Driver fined
KAMPALA — A taxi driver and resident of Semawata Road in Ntinda, was yesterday ordered to pay a fine of sh500,000 or face 12 months in jail for assault. Andrew Mukiibi, 35, was sentenced for assaulting a 10-year-old child.

UYM deny Sebaggala
KAMPALA — The Uganda Young Movementists (UYM) will not support Sebaggala’ when he returns from the UK. Reacting to a story in The Monitor of May 26, which quoted them as “planning to massively support” Sebaggala, UYM vice-chairman Frank Mukerwa said they could not associate with a political opportunist.

MP backs Red Pepper
MASAKA — The MP for Kalungu East, Mawuya Lule, has commended the Red Pepper and Bukedde for exposing moral decay in society. Addressing taxi operators in Lukaya Main Hall over the weekend, Mawuya said “How would we have known the extent of immorality in our society?”

‘Unity will end war’
KAMPALA — Nwoya County MP Zachary Olum has said the only solution to the northern war is unity. While addressing Nwoya Makerere Student’s Association recently, Olum said the rebellion in the north was an issue that could be tackled if the local people were united.

Nankabirwa blasts PAFO
KIBOGA — Defence state minister Ruth Nankabirwa has blasted the Parliamentary Advocacy Forum (PAFO) for opposing the lifting of the presidential term limit. During the launch of a micro finance institution in the district recently, Nankabirwa said those opposed to the third term were against development.
