Army side UPDF kept the tempo high in the third leg of the national boxing league at Lugogo Indoor Stadium last weekend.
The Bombo-based side lead the eight-team championship with 22 points followed by Kampala City Council (KCC) with 14 points, one better than Kampala Boxing Club (KBC).

Bantamweight Ali Sengendo was the sensation for the soldiers as he pummelled Muzamil Ssebi of KBC winning a unanimous verdict from the judges.
Sierra Leon and Cameroon have meanwhile confirmed their entries for the King’s Cup AIBA Ranking championship due in Kampala soon.

But with barely two weeks to the event, preparations for the local team are yet to take off effectively.
“We are in a total mess,” Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) secretary Sande Musoke lamented yesterday, “We might not even raise a full team.”
National Council of Sports (NCS) has promised a paltry sh0.5m to the cash-strapped federation to prepare the boxers for the championship.

Boxing lovers will, however next week, be treated to the national schools championship whose weigh-in is Sunday at Lugogo — venue for the event.
