RIYAZ Kurji, coming off victory in the Alpha Mbarara rally, and South African Schalk Burger will take centre stage in the Zimbabwe Dunlop Challenge rally that gets underway with a super special stage this afternoon.

Kurji, who is tied at the top of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) chart with Burger on 10 points, left Kampala in high spirits.

“The strategy is to set the pace like we did in the Mbarara rally. We will do our best and hopefully bring another trophy home,” said Kurji who scooped maximum points in the KCB Safari rally in February.

The Alpha Rally Team leader will be flagged off second behind Burger and will be pursued by Zambian Muna Singh, a nephew to Ugandan-born legendary Satwant Singh.

The race is compounded by the fact that all top three drivers score ARC points.

Local heroes Watson Jess and Jamie Whyte will be out to reverse the trend of foreign drivers including Ugandan Charles Muhangi winning the rally since 1999.

The rally has attracted 28 crews from South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
