<b>Official held</b><br>KABALE — The municipal engineer, Silver Niwagaba, who has been on suspension, is now being held at Kabale Police Station on charges of embezzlement and abuse of office.

KABALE — The municipal engineer, Silver Niwagaba, who has been on suspension, is now being held at Kabale Police Station on charges of embezzlement and abuse of office. The deputy officer in charge of criminal investigations, James Kajabwami, said Niwagaba had allegedly failed to account for sh11m spent on the unfinished Keishari road in Butobere.

Gun fight
KYENJOJO — The Police repulsed unknown gunmen who attacked the home of a businessman in Rwenkenja village, Kihuura sub-county. According to CID officer Michael Ogwal, the thugs intended to steal agricultural produce from Steven Basaliza, but the Police responded immediately and dispersed the thugs.

Illegal shops
KASESE — Only 60 drug shops in the district are registered with the National Drug Authority (NDA) leaving at least 500 others operating illegally. Angela Bonabana, a senior training officer at NDA recently said some district health workers owned the illegal drug shops.

Baby boom
KASESE — LC5 chairman Yokasi Bihande has warned of a serious population explosion likely to hit the area in the next two decades. Bihande, while speaking at a graduation ceremony for nurses and midwives at Kagando Hospital recently, said the district had the highest fertility rate.

Movt league
KABALE — Over 1,000 youth in the district have formed a Movement Youth League, chairperson John Ngabirano has said. Ngabirano recently said the league’s main objectives were to promote development and nationalism.

Youth urged
NTUNGAMO — The district chairman, John Karazaarwe, has urged the youth to abstain from sex till they get married. He was speaking at the launch of the Straight Talk magazine at Kyamate Grounds recently.
