UGANDA’S tennis team will pitch camp in Serbia and Montenegro a week before they take part in the Euro/Africa Zone IV Davis Cup in Moldova.

“We shall pitch camp in Serbia ahead of the Davis Cup and that will give us good preparations before the assignment,” Cedric Babu, Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) secretary said.

Babu added: “Our preparations have been very adequate this time. We have trained for close to two months and that is great for this team.”

UTA treasurer Simo Dubjanic and Jovan Latincic are planning for the trip to Serbia.

UTA needs sh50m to send a team of five players and a coach to the competition in the former Soviet Republic state.

“We would have loved to send a bigger team but we are cash-strapped at the moment and we shall settle for five,” said Babu.
“I believe we shall do well in the tournament this time because we have had better preparations than the previous years.”

The Tennis Club Ali-Ten, Chisinau in Moldova, will play host to the all-male team tournament from July 12-18.

Uganda will have to battle Armenia, Bosnia/ Herzegovina, Botswana, Malta, Mauritius, Moldova and Rwanda. The best two nations will be elevated to group three.
UTA is in talks with Emirates Air to fly the team.

In camp are Mustapha Lwanga, Shaban Lwanga, Chris Baagala, James Odong, Godfrey Uzunga, Charles Yokwe, Patrick Olobo and Cedric Babu under coaches John Oduke and John Kasule.

UTA will unveil the team to make the trip on Friday.
