Professor John Ssebuwufu, who for a decade served as the Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University Kampala, has been appointed the chairman of the preparatory committee of the Buganda Kingdom University, writes Josephine Maseruka.

Ssebuwufu (left), who retired recently, will head a 15-member committee of professionals to pave way for the opening of the university next year.

The Mengo minister of education, sports and mobilisation, Chrisostom Muyingo, on Friday said the university, to be situated at the Masaka Technical Institute, would begin with the teaching of management and information technology courses.

He said the existing structures will need renovation and new ones constructed to accommodate the university.

Muyingo said the university headquarters would be at Bulange, Mengo.

He said technical subjects taught at the institute would be integrated in the university course work.

Muyingo, however, declined to name the 15 members on the preparatory committee, saying it would be rude for members to learn of their appointments from the newspapers.
The central Government has promised to support the university.
