Former External Security Organisation director general David Pulkol’s presence at the Omukama Solomon Iguru’s royal palace in Hoima at the 10th coronation anniversary on Friday stirred up the event.

The Omukama’s information minister, Isaac Gahwera, while introducing Pulkol said, “This function has been unique and it has drawn people from as far as Karamoja. I am glad to inform you that we have made friends with people from as far as Karamoja. Mr. Pulkol is here with us.”

Pulkol, who was seated behind Minister Baguma Isoke, immediately stood up from the pavilion and paid homage to the king.

Guests whispered to each other as Pulkol saluted Iguru in a Kinyoro traditional style.

He participated in the royal dance, which crowns the empango celebrations and was also joined by the area MPs, local leaders and kingdom officials.

As journalists sought to interview Pulkol, Buyaga MP Ignatius Besisira told him, “David, you are selling like hot cakes here.”

Pulkol responded saying, “These are my comrades and we have a lot to discuss.”

Sources said Pulkol was supposed to meet some youth in Hoima but cancelled the meeting. A security source said the organisers were planning to stop Pulkol’s meeting, saying it was illegal.

He instead travelled to Masindi where he featured on a talk show aired by a local FM radio, Bunyoro Broadcasting Services, owned by one of the kingdom officials.

Government ministers including public service minister Henry Kajura and former president Godfrey Binaisa attended.

The Empango, under the theme “A new Bunyoro,” were also attended by diplomats, deputy Katikkiro of Buganda Kaaya Kavuma and Isebaruli Ssalongo Mwogezi.

Iguru also launched a five-year development plan for the kingdom the first of its kind since the kingdom, was restored 10 years ago.

Kingdom prime minster Erisa Byenkya re-affirmed the Kingdom’s desire for a federal system as the only way for the kingdom to develop.

In a speech read by the third deputy prime minister, Henry Kajura, President Yoweri Museveni reiterated his commitment to supporting cultural leaders in the country to enable them carry out development activities.
