UGANDA Beef Producers Association (UBPA) will get a $5m (sh9.5b) meat processing plant by the end of this month.

In an interview at Workers House recently, UBPA’s vice-chairman David Kamukama said the plant would help them export value added meat and exploit international markets.

“There’s is high demand for Uganda’s beef in Middle East countries and Europe because it is organic. Acquisition of the plant will increase the country’s GDP and farmers incomes,” he said
Kamukama said UBPA and other external investors would meet costs of the plant.

He said with good production methods, UBPA could give the country more forex revenue, improve people’s health and create jobs.

Kamukama advised government to help farmers through disease control measures, infrastructure and policy frameworks to get better quality meat.

He said UBPA would educate people about the importance of consuming meat through seminars and workshops.

“Uganda’s per capita consumption of meat products is 6kg against the 50kg recommended by Food and Agriculture Organisation. This should to be fought,” he said.
