THE construction of a sh6b water project for Mukono town has commenced.

Mukono district water engineer Ronald Kato said the project, to be constructed by Vambeco Enterprises contractors, was expected to be completed in eight months.

The Minister of Water, Lands and Environment, Col. Kahinda Otafiire (right), witnessed the signing of the agreement between the Government and the contractors at the ministry’s boardroom last week.

The project, funded by the Government, will cover 16 square kilometres in Mukono and Seeta towns.

President Yoweri Museveni promised during the 2001 presidential campaigns that the town would get piped water by 2005.

Kato appealed to leaders not to politicise the project because it was geared at development.

Mayor Johnson Ssenyonga urged residents to cooperate with the contractors.
