KAMPALA Central Division has taken over management of public toilets in the city centre after the contractors failed to clear a sh35.8m debt.

The LC3 chairman, Charles Sserunjogi (right), on Tuesday said the contract expired four years ago and had not been renewed.

“This is a weakness on the part of the evaluation committee. Analysing the performance of revenue bases, it clearly shows lack of seriousness of the committee,” he said at Hotel Africana, at the presentation of the division’s 2004/05 budget. A sh8.5b budget was passed.

The toilets, whose management has been taken over, are on Namirembe Road, the Old and New taxi parks.

Sserunjogi said, “The principal assistant town clerk takes over the management of these utilities with immediate effect until the tender board gives us another set of managers.”
