A man who defiled a 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to the offence.

Paul Muwanga, 22, a resident of Kabaale in Kyamuliibwa sub-county in Masaka district was convicted by the High Court Judge, Kibuuka Musoke.

Court heard that on April 29, 2001, at Namasavu village, the accused waylaid the girl outside her father’s house at night as she was going to the pit latrine.
He claimed to have brought a letter for her father.
“On getting closer, the man grabbed her, and defiled her before her elder brother came to her rescue and the defiler run away,” resident State Attorney Susan Okarany told court.

The girl, who reportedly sustained injuries in her private parts, was admitted in hospital.
It was later discovered that the girl had conceived and later delivered a baby boy.

The matter was taken to Court and the man was arrested and charged with defilement.
“Considering the fact that the baby is alive, it is your duty to provide and cater for it and its mother,” Musoke said.

He said the baby’s mother had been visiting Muwanga in Prison and she needed his help to raise the baby, adding that since he pleaded guilty and saved court’s time, a six-month sentence was befitting.
