THE Olympic bound boxers who abandoned their training camp at White Horse Inn in Kabale have agreed to go back and train but not under Johnson Kasajja – the Ezra Boxing Board coordinator.
The boxers met Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) officials on Saturday to explain why they disappeared.
They also want to meet EBB patron Michael Ezra and explain to him their decision.
They told UABF president Vincent Byarugaba that they quit because Kasajja’s acts had become intolerable to them.
Joseph Lubega (captain) told Byarugaba that Kasajja had advised him to sacrifice his sick boy and first accomplice a mission to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
Byarugaba, secretary Sande Musoke and coach Dick Katende met the boxers in Kampala along Namirembe Rd.
Byarugaba said Jolly Katongole also complained of Kasajja’s attempts to slap him for minor mistakes.
One of the boxers who turned up for the professional boxing contests at Nakivubo Saturday night said Kasajja claimed they ate much food because they had non at home.
“All of them (boxers) (except absent Sadat Tebazalwa and Brian Mayanja) complained of mistreatment by Kasajja and said he (Kasajja) was not willing to listen to them. They expressed mistrust after Kasajja did not fully pay their May allowances and that sparring partners were dispersed without being paid a coin,” Byarugaba said.
When contacted on phone Kasajja said, “take what has been said but I have paid the boxers up to date.”
UABF is due to introduce the team to National Council of Sports (NCS) acting general secretary Jasper Aligawesa today before taking them back to camp.
James Bakama adds that Kasajja will at 11am today at Hotel Africana hold a press conference to explain the future of EBB.
Kasajja last week resigned from the post of EBB coordinator after the team quit a camp financed by Ezra. The boxers quit complaining of harassment by Kasajja.
