BONIFACE Kiprop, Uganda’s 2003 sportsman of the year, has told youngsters that endurance, commitment and hard work are key to success in sports.

“I am surviving in life because of sports and I encourage all of you to endure and become future sports personalities for a good living,” he advised the youngsters at Lugogo yesterday.

The long distance runner, who is preparing for the Olympics, addressed over 150 students at the closing ceremony of the British Council global sports festival in Kampala.

Participants took part in various games and sports early in the day, coordinated by the young women leaders from 32 secondary schools trained under the British Council Dreams and Teams project.

The project is currently being run in 20 countries and in Uganda, it is conducted in partnership with the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA). Over 20 children from Special Olympics Uganda have been part of the project this year.

Kate Ewarts, the British Council director hailed all the leaders-in-waiting who completed the project.
“Young leaders, go out there and practice what you have learnt.

You are among thousands of brilliant products trained under the Dreams and Teams project and we expect a lot from you in society,” said Ewarts.

“We aim at developing leadership, citizenship and international awareness among young people through sports,” national tutor Aisha Kagere remarked.

NCS acting general secretary Jesper Aligawesa attended the function sponsored by Coca cola, Asiatic Sports, Magric Ltd and Case Clinic.
