UGANDA Squash Rackets Association (USRA) has lined up the Nomi Open championships for late next month at Kampala Club. “Right now our focus is on this tournament which is a new one on our calendar,” Simon Kajubu, USRA tournament manager said. Mukwano Industries will sponsor the July 26-31 championship under its Nomi detergent brand. This will be the third event USRA is organising after the 2003 MTN Open, GTZ/HIV Aids awareness tournament and are expected to have more events.

KENNEDY House amassed 628 points to take the top accolades at the Gayaza High School sports day at a ceremony presided over by sports minister Henry Okello Oryem on Saturday. The same function saw the groundbreaking ceremony of the new swimming pool where the minister pledged sh0.1m for its completion. Kivebulaya took second position with 576 points.

FALLEN national schools giants Jinja SSS have stormed the semi-finals of the Jinja regional qualifiers ahead of the annual Coca-Cola schools championships August 1-8. The tournament gets to the climax next week with the final game at Jinja SSS main cricket oval. St James, Wakitaka College and Lord Meade SSS are the other semi-finalists to play this Saturday.

Preparations for the fete that is expected to attract over 2000 fans are in high gear, according to fans interim chairman, Bob Olwol. He said the organising committee include Lira tycoons.

Kaggwa wins
KAGGWA House emerged winners of the 2004 Jinja College inter-house competitions on Saturday. National Council of Sports (NCS) official Justine Lijalingi presided over the fete. Kaggwa garnered 160 points to beat four other houses Gonza, Mugaga, Kizito and Lwanga to the crown.
