CASTLE Lager has boosted the national team with high quality T/shirts and training gear worth sh1.8m ahead of their three-day intercontinental tie with Kenya July 23-25.

The official sponsors of the national league delivered 70 T/shirts to the players undergoing training at Lugogo on Wednesday.

“This will go a long way in giving morale to the players as it will also instill a spirit of uniformity during their preparations for the big game,” said team manager Robert Kisubi.

Kisubi also announced that the 19-man squad would be reduced to 14 before the players travel to Kenya.

The same squad will play at the Africa Cricket Cup scheduled for August 1-8 in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, coach Tom Tikolo has geared up drills for the team ahead of the highly billed match against Kenya.

“Kenya is a good all round side but we are developing strategies to deny them victory,” said Tikolo.

“The boys are currently in top form and we are now closely working on the top order batsmen so that they can stay longer on the crease for good runs,” added the coach.

After four two-day trial games at Entebbe and Kyambogo ovals, Tikolo is confident his boys will have a surprise package for Kenya.

The pace bowling attack of Kenneth Kamyuka, Richard Okia, Junior Kwebiiha and Tendo Mbazzi has proved perfect alongside the spin bowling of Frank Nsubuga, Nehal Bibodi, Kenneth Legesi and Baig Akbar in the trial games.

The side has been boosted by the return of captain Kwebiiha and his counterparts Okia and Keith Legesi who have been away from the camp for studies. The squad will play the fifth two-day trial game starting today at Kyambogo oval.
