The parliamentary committee on works, transport and communication has advised President Yoweri Museveni to stick to written speeches in any address he makes.

The committee chaired by Nathan Byanyima (Bukanga) was yesterday responding to Museveni’s remark on the Constitutional Court ruling that nullified the 2000 referendum.
The committee concurred with the President that there was no constitutional crisis but that people have misinterpreted the Court ruling.

“One thing I have noticed with the President is that many times he speaks off the cuff. He should stick to his written speech,” said Gagawala Wambuzi (Bulamogi).

John Byabagambi (Ibanda North) said the President was of late becoming intolerant and insensitive even on trivial issues.

“Another problem is that the people who should have advised him are now fearing to do so. The Movement caucus is becoming weak yet we have to advise our man because he is our beloved President,” he added.

Budama East MP A. Ogoola described Museveni as a liar who has been caught up by time.

Members cited Museveni’s reference to MPs as taxi conductors at the COMESA conference, wondering whether the phrase had been part of his speech.
