Real estate agents, Property Masters (PM), have offered sh20m to Buganda kingdom to be allowed to advertise again on the Central Broadcasting Services (CBS) FM radio in a bid to mend relations with Mengo.
“The fact that the majority of our clients are Baganda, I feel that this is developmental to the kingdom because our work helps promote investments through enabling easy acquisition of the factor of production (land). We want to be part of the crusade to uplift Buganda,” PM managing director Patrick Kasulu said in an interview at his International Conference Centre office on Saturday.
“Being a Ugandan, I feel I shouldn’t be denied the chance to conduct my businesses freely with all media channels. It’s the reason why I’m offering CBS sh20m every month just as an outstanding amount for my adverts,” he said.
Last year, Mengo banned PM adverts from running on CBS FM, saying the company was promoting the sale of Buganda land.
Kasulu said Mengo should allow PM to advertise on the CBS website as was the case with his real estate counterparts.
He said PM activities had benefited Mengo through the buying of kingdom certificates since majority buyers were Baganda nkuba kyeyos (migrant manual workers).
He said although he was banned from CBS, some Mengo officials used PM to buy and sell assets.
“Mengo never banned him. He stopped advertising with us after concerned Baganda perceived it as sale of Buganda kingdom’s land,” the deputy Katikkiro of Buganda and CBS managing director, Kaaya Kavuma, said when contacted for comment.
Kavuma said Mengo would have to discuss the offer.
He said the kingdom might allow PM adverts back on air.
