THE director of crop resources in the agriculture ministry, Japheth Omoding, has appealed to the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) to teach residents modern methods of farming.
He was speaking at the NARO Ngetta Farm Institute before the election of the local NARO chairperson recently.
Omoding said agricultural extension workers should help farmers grow crops on demand.

Youth asked

THE deputy RDC of Lira district, Sylvester Opira, has cautioned the youth with disability to guard against the HIV/AIDS scourge.
Opira, who was speaking at a youth with disability workshop at the All Nation Conference Hall recently, said the scourge would ravage the nation unless the youth changed their behaviour positively.
Over 100 participants from Apac and Lira districts attended.

Budget read

PADER district council has passed a sh13b budget for the 2004/2005 financial year.
The district council, which passed the budget last week, allocated over sh5.3b (40 percent of the funds) to education and social services, sh3b to works and technical services and sh2b to heath and environment.

23 killed

AT least 23 internally displaced people (IDPs) have been killed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in Adilang sub-county, Agago county in Pader district since March this year.
The area LC3 chairman, Jackson Tonny Omenya, said recently that most of the victims were women and children who ventured in their village gardens for food.
