THE office of the deputy vice-chancellor of Makerere University Kampala, recently fell vacant after Prof. Opio Epelu retired.
He handed over to the vice-chancellor, Prof. Livingstone Luboobi.
The University Council hailed Epelu (right) for his contribution towards restoring security at the university, which experienced escalating murder cases a few years earlier.
The University Council chairperson, Gabriel Opio, said Luboobi would be in charge of the deputy vice-chancellor’s office until Epelu’s successor is appointed in a month.
Opio said the council would meet on July 14 to agree on the procedure of appointment.
“It will be a shorter exercise than that of the vice-chancellor. After the meeting, we shall advertise the post,” Opio said.
Deans of faculties and directors of institutes, university council and senate members attended the hand-over ceremony.
Epelu thanked the university management and lecturers for the good working relationship exhibited during his time and promised to be available for consultations.
There will be a farewell party for the former vice-chancellor, Prof. John Ssebuwufu and Epelu on a date to be communicated.
