The President’s Office and a UK organisation, Connect Nursing, have organised a three-day workshop to sensitise Ugandans about employment opportunities in Britain.
Addressing the press at Speke Hotel recently, the legal assistant to the President, Naava Nabagesera, said the workshop starts on July 8.
“The idea is to tell our people seeking greener pastures how they could go about it. Officials from the Government and Connect Nursing will address the participants,” she said.
Nabagesera said the main beneficiaries of the workshop would be registered nurses, who she said stood high chances of getting jobs in the UK.
Through a formal immigration programme, the Government and Connect Nursing want to send about 200 nurses in the first phase of a long-term programme.
Nabagesera said if a nurse got £5 an hour, they would be able to send £500 back home every month.
“If we sent 200 nurses to the UK, the least we would get every month would be about sh400m per month,” she said.
