secretary, Rose Nalubowa recently urged parents of pupils in P7 to utilise the chance of model schools initiated by the district council if they wanted their children to pass. She said the education department had identified two government schools from each of the 27 sub-counties for this purpose.

Watch out
MUKONO – The ministry of Education and Sports is working out a plan for teachers who defile their students to be expelled from the teaching practice. The commissioner for secondary education, Yusuf Nsubuga, said this while giving a speech at Kojja SSS recently.

NGO pledges
KAMPALA – A USA Christian Life World Mission Frontier has pledged assistance to improve the education sector in Kampala, Wakiso, Rakai, Kiboga, Mubende, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Masaka, Luwero and Kamuli districts. Speaking at Regency Hotel recently, the national chairman, Bishop Sam Kasumba said they are to identify the schools soon.

Disabled kids
KAMPALA – The assistant commisioner special education, Christopher Okecho recently said Uganda has an estimated 258,652 disabled children in both priamry and secondary schools.

Bishop warns
MUKONO – The diocesan bishop, Paul Luzinda has warned students against getting local herbs from their parents in order to pass exams. Luzinda while addressing students of Mukono High School recently also warned the students against consulting witch doctors for love potion. “Some of you come from families where parents have shrines built behind your homes but do not get involved, you will be mislead you,” he warned.

Govt to aid
MPIGI – The Government is to grant aid to 18 primary schools in the district starting this financial year. Speaking to Education Vision recently, the district education officer, Daniel Nkaada said the newly selected schools will get all the necessary requirements other government schools are getting.

Kitgum gets
KITGUM – The Ministry of Education and Sports has donated textbooks worth sh242.8m to boost Universal Primary Education programme in the district. The district education officer, Amo Okwee-Okaka, said recently that his department received 57,866 textbooks for primary schools.
