BONIFACE Kiprop will be a favourite for a double victory in the 10000 and 5000m at the World Junior Athletics Championships.

The teenager has the fastest 5000m time among the juniors lined up for the race tomorrow in the Italian town of Grosseto.
International Association of Athletics Federations records show Kiprop as the second fastest junior this season. The world’s fastest junior is Ethiopia’s Mulugeta Wendimu.

Kiprop clocked 13 minutes 01.28 seconds, a national record, at the Bergen Grand Prix in Norway last month. Wendimu’s season best is 13:01.28 set in Hengelo.
Success in the 5000m will spur Kiprop, cross-country silver medalist this year, in the 10000m.
The Ugandan team, sponsored by Uganda Olympic Committee, National Council of Sports, Crane Bank, IAAF and UAAF arrived yesterday.

First in action today are 800m runner and captain Stephen Akena, 400m runners Waisswa Lukungu and Rueben Twijukye and 100m runner Raymond Diogo
Kiprop and Moses Aliwa (10000m), together with Jet Barnabas Kimwogo (3000m steeple chase) will be taking to the track tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Moses Kipsiro is to spearhead Wakiso district’s quest for honours against Gulu when the national post primary schools athletics championship gets underway at King George IV stadium in Tororo this week.

The 17-year-old Barkley SS student posted an incredible 13.39 in 5000m race in Ezra Track Team Board (ETTB) Platinum League at Mandela stadium recently.
Arrival date is Wednesday for the three-day meet that kicks off on Thursday with cross-country at Tororo golf course.
