THE New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Ltd (NVPPC) today launches a new tabloid newspaper, The Sun, bringing the number of newspapers in its stable to seven.

The New Vision Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief, William Pike, said The Sun would cater for the audience that is not comfortable with Luganda.

Pike said the paper would provide variety on the market and expand the portfolio of the company newspapers.

He said it would also improve the NVPPC revenue since it is being floated on the stock exchange.

“We are being floated on the stock exchange and that puts pressure on us to increase the revenue and to look for business opportunities,” Pike said.

The NVPPC publishes The New Vision, Sunday Vision, Bukedde, Orumuri for western Uganda, Etop in Ateso and Rupiny in Luo. The New Vision and the Sunday Vision contain special pullouts and magazines.

Pike said The Sun would start with 9,000 copies but would increase with time. It costs sh600 each.

He said the package would consist of feature articles, news, sports and other items but presented in a way that provides light reading.

The Associate Editor, Maurice Ssekawungu, said The Sun readers should expect humour, entertainment, news, gossip, crazy pictorials but no pornography.

He said the paper, to be published Monday to Saturday, would circulate all over the country.
