THE Pan African Parliament (PAP) with a membership of 53 countries, needs US$6.9m to meet its scheduled activities, reports Mariam Nalunkuuma.

Jonam MP Fred Jachan Omach , the chairperson of Pan African Parliamentarians in Uganda, on Thursday said members were responsible for raising the funds.

The MPs, who were recently attending the second session of the Pan African Parliament for three weeks in South Africa, said the meeting emphasised peace and security in Africa.

Flanked by Loyce Bwambale (Kasese), Abdu Katuntu (Bugweri) and Mike Sebalu (Busiro), Omach told journalists at parliament, “The Pan African Parliament was the right forum for the emancipation of Africa for its regional political and economic integration.”

Katuntu, who was appointed to lead the PAP team to Dafur, said their findings would help African leaders decide whether the situation in Dafur was genocide or not. Katuntu said costs of the mission would be met by the African Union.

Bwambale was appointed chairperson of the committee for gender, family, youth and PWDs, Matembe for rules, and Katuntu on the committee for justice and human rights.
