Four veteran teachers awarded

FOUR veteran educationists have received the meritorious award of the Association of Catholic Teachers of Kampala Archdiocese (ACEITEKA).

FOUR veteran educationists have received the meritorious award of the Association of Catholic Teachers of Kampala Archdiocese (ACEITEKA).
This was in recognition of their outstanding contribution in the field of education.
The ceremony took place at Kisubi Seminary Beach recently.
Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala and Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga presided over the ceremony.
Mary Goretti Katusabe Ssemwezi, 49, the secretary Kyambogo University was acknowledged for her competency as a teacher, mother and academician. She taught English, Literature and General Paper at Trinity College Nabbingo, St Aloysius Sec. School Nabbingo and Nkozi NTC. She served as Registrar at the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo.
Basil Kiwanuka, 80, was recognised as an outstanding educationist, parent, volunteer and public servant. Kiwanuka taught Mathematics and Geography at St. Henry’s College Kitovu and St. Mary’s College Kisubi. He served in different capacities at the Ministry of Education. He was the first African to be promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector of Schools in East Africa.
The late Msgr. Emmanuel Kibirige, 80, who passed away recently was hailed as an extra-ordinary clergyman, social worker and educationist. He worked as Kampala Archdiocese Secretary for Education and initiated the idea of starting church private senior secondary schools. Kibirige was the brain behind the creation of Centenary Rural Development Trust in 1982, which later grew to become Centenary Rural development Bank.
Stephen Bonaventure Maloba was recognised as a competent teacher, educational planner and consultant. He taught English, Mathematics and History.
