THE Egyptian government has provided four tones of anti-malaria drugs targeting pregnant mothers and children in Yumbe district.
The Egyptian ambassador, Maasoum Marzouk, warned that the drugs should not be sold to the intended population.
“We are responding to the outcry of Yumbe residents in the fight against malaria. These drugs should not be sold to the people. Because of poverty, we want them to access the drugs free of charge,” Marzourk said at the hand-over ceremony.
He handed over the consignment to Yumbe district MP Uthman Alonga in the presence of the district director of health services, Buga Morris, the resident district commissioner, Major Sebi Kaliri and LC5 representative Wellborn Vuni.
The ministry of health commissioner for clinical services, Dr. Jacinto Amandua, was also present at the hand over at the Egyptian embassy in Kololo on Thursday.
“We succeeded in getting rid of malaria for the last four years through medication, public awareness and use of mosquito nets,” Marzouk said.
