I differ from Kasibante and his God on Uganda!

SIR— This is in reaction to the letter by the Rev Amos Kasibante, a Ugandan at Leicester University in the UK, in yesterday’s Vision, entitled, “I differ from Aseete about Uganda’s God!’.

Kasibante asserts that God, the God of Uganda, has yet to prove his power by saving the country from divisions, wanton killings, callousness, disease and other ills.

He was reacting to Rev Francis Aseete’s letter of gratitude to God for taking Uganda through 42 years of ‘thick and thin’. Aseete does not say God has overturned buckets of milk and honey on Uganda, but he acknowledges that even though we have walked through the valley of the shadow of death, God has been in it with us.

Kasibante says such power that takes us through thick and thin can be improved, to actually take away the trouble.

The way I see it, though, is this, quoted ‘live’ from the Bible:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Can Kasibante say he and other Ugandans have lived up to this condition? The Scripture says all God’s promises are yes and amen. If he said he would heal our land, he surely will, but only after we have done our bit.

So come, let’s get Uganda
to seek God and our land
will be healed of divisions, blood-letting, Aids and every other ill.
