UGANDA Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) has appointed a technical committee to restructure the federation to conform to the latest AIBA guidelines, reports Samson Opus.

AIBA recommended a new competition format basing on age group after the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in August. UABF secretary Sande Musoke said the new calendar would be based on schools championship for ages between 13-15.

The change is meant to tap the abundant youth talent, according to Musoke. He added that the new format drives at retiring old boxers. The old format events like the novices attracted both young an aged pugilists.

Under the new system, the cadets (formerly inter-mediates) category will involve 15-17-year-olds and the juniors (17-19 years). The seniors championship (formerly National Open) caters for 19-34 year old boxers.
