THE Government has formulated a policy to address the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

THE Government has formulated a policy to address the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Charles Ariko writes that disaster preparedness state minister Amongin Aporu on Monday said most IDPs were in northern Uganda, where the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels have displaced over one million people.

“We hope to address the problems of IDPs using the new policy. The Government is determined to end the war in the north but there are still some challenges,” Aporu said.
She was on Monday officiating at a photo exhibition highlighting the humanitarian situation in the north.

The United Nations office in Kampala organised the exhibition, featuring photographs by James Akena.

Aporu said the photographs were explicit and revealed the suffering of the IDPs.

“As a mother, I feel a lot of pain when I see the children suffer. We need to find a solution,” she said.
