THE Ministry of Health has dispatched a rapid response team to the Pabbo Internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Gulu district, following an outbreak of Cholera there.

The multi-disciplinary National Response Team, comprising the health ministry, Unicef, WHO and the Institute of Public Health, was dispatched to the district on Thursday.

It will bolster efforts by the district in interventions such as technical guidance, case management, logistics support, mobilisation, surveillance and monitoring of the epidemic.

The health ministry in a statement issued yesterday, confirmed an outbreak of the epidemic which, by Wednesday, had already claimed one life, with six other reported cases.

The outbreak poses a risk to 63,000 IDPs in the camp.
“Given the living conditions of the IDPs, the risk of the spread of the epidemic is potentially high,” Dr. Herman Kyabbagu, who signed the statement, said.
