Our players at fault!

Sir - Having watched the Uganda versus South Africa game on SABC TV, and after listening to the subsequent arguments on how badly Cranes performed, allow me to offer a quote from the great Brian Clough: “Players lose you games, not tactics. There’s so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes”.
To me, the inability of our national soccer players to do the basics against South Africa, was our undoing at Mandela National Stadium in the latest World Cup qualifying match.
You cannot expect to win a game with players who cannot control a ball or make a fruitful or meaningful pass when they get it. Worse, with players who stay too long on the ball when not necessary.
You will note that the goal we conceded was from an unforced error by over dribbling David Obua and a rash challenge by Timothy Batabaire, while our midfield insisted on sending aerial balls to a footballer 4ft tall. If you cannot do the basics, why all the disappointment when a team that has been to two consecutive World Cups and five Nations Cups, beats you?

Abbas is my man!
SIR - I would like to thank the new Cranes coach Mohammed Abbas from Egypt for the wonderful work done. Most of us Ugandans now have some hope in the national soccer team, Cranes. Keep up man.
I would also like to thank the fans for showing up in great numbers for the 2006 World Cup qualifying match against South Africa at Namboole. We should show similar support if Cranes is to improve.
