BUSIA – The secretary of education, William Alunga, has expressed concern over the alarming defilement rate in the primary schools in the district. He said the act had contributed to the high school dropout rate of girls. Alunga, however, appealed to parents and guardians to always ensure their children are well catered for to avoid the act.

Teachers warned
MUKONO – The Principal Education Officer, Edward Kalanzi Sewanyana, has cautioned headteachers who victimise female teachers for turning down their sexual demands. He said they risked prosecution and loss of their jobs. Kalanzi was recently addressing primary school headteachers at Bishop West Primary School on how to review the new school term education programme.

Schools aid Aboke girls
KAYUNGA – ST KALEMBA Senior Secondary School in Nazigo sub-county has donated 10 bags of rice, 10 bales of clothes and utensils worth sh40m to the war victims in the north. The items are to be distributed to over 150 Aboke girls and their parents. “Each girl and family would get at least 30 kilogrammes of rice, clothes and utensils,’’ the headmaster, John Mary Mpoza said during a thanksgiving ceremony at the school recently.

PRO clarifies on regulations
KAMPALA – Uganda National examinations Board has said the board does not mistreat candidates during examination period. UNEB Public Relations Officer (PRO), Eve Konde said in a recent statement that the board regulation restricting candidates’ movement out of the examination room has been misunderstood by some people and they have expressed their opinions in the press.
