Women’s 7s attract 5 foreign teams

MWAMBA Invaders, Moi girls and Kisumu Tilapias (Kenya), Burundi’s senior team and Rwanda’s Silverbacks arrive in the country on Friday for the inaugural East African women’s rugby 7’s tournament slated for Saturday.

Jackie Kigozi, the assistant tournament organiser disclosed yesterday that all the teams are expected in Kampala by Friday evening for the one-day showdown at Kyadondo rugby football pitch.

Thunderbirds Yellow, Thunderbirds Blue and Thunderbirds Black have registered as host teams in the senior category.

St Catherine, Dara Christian High School. Lira Integrated and Bethany High School will represent Uganda in the schoolgirls’ category.
Uganda’s Thunderbirds Yellow, who are regional champions in both the Kabeberi Safari and Kisumu sevens held three months ago, are considered favourites to win this event.

At the same time, Kigozi also unveiled the 14 tournament sponsors who have offered financial, material and technical support to the Kyadondo women’s rugby team.

Ice Mark Africa, AON Insurance, DsTV, DHL, Kobil, Century Bottling Company, Rwenzori Water, WBS Television, Club Silk, UEDCL, Hillside High School, Confederation of African Rugby (CAR), Uganda Rugby Football Union (URU) and MTN Uganda are the event sponsors.
