KCC Football Club’s dream of finally owning a modern home will be fulfiled today.

South African company Shoprite, that agreed to build the stadium after using KCC’s training ground to build their Lugogo supermarket, will at 3.00pm hand over the new structure to club chairman Takuba Kabuye.

“We are happy about the development. It’s been a long, long wait but great things don’t come cheap. They will hand over today and we will do the rest of the finishing,” said Takuba. A number of events to launch the stadium will be staged on Sunday.

Shoprite, allocated 2.5 hectares of the Lugogo grounds, agreed in 2002 to include a 6,000-seater stadium in a $13m (sh23.9bn) project that had construction of a supermarket as its main facet.

Since the club’s formation in the late 1960’s, KCC has been using Nakivubo and Namboole.

It puts them at the same level as Express, who are the only other Kampala club with a home ground.
