SOCCER governing body FUFA meets tomorrow to consider a request to have German-trained Jackson Mayanja join the Cranes coaching structure.

According to reliable sources within the federation, a majority of the federation chiefs are keen to have Mayanja assist Cranes Egyptian coach Mohammed Abbas.
Abbas first met Mayanja at Egyptian professional club El Masry, and it would be a reunion of a coach and player.

FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda could not commit on what arrangement would come into place, since Abbas already has three assistants, Mike Mutebi and Frank ‘Video’ Anyau, plus goal-keeping coach Paul Ssali. Mayanja could come in as a special assistant to handle the strikers.

He confirmed the meeting would take place tomorrow: “It’s an executive meeting and we want to wait and see what happens.”

The youthful tactician’s name came into frame following a suggestion by Abbas that he be called up to assist him understand the local game better.

Abbas is reported to have held closed talks with FUFA about his concerns recently.

Cranes’ second assistant Anyau could in the new arrangement be relieved after Cranes working committee’s reservations on the number of coaches staffed for the team.

“It is technical but we will sit with them and balance the financial implications of the whole matter,” the committee’s spokesman Aggrey Kibenge said yesterday.
Uganda is grouped with Ghana, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Cape Verde in 2006 World Cup qualifying group two.

Cranes are bottom of the group and will play their next game away to Bafana Bafana in March.
