THE Acholi youth have been urged to condemn the atrocities committed by the rebel leader Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in the sub-region.

The chairman National Youths Council (NYC), Joseph Okwakau, made the call while meeting the internally displaced youths at Unyama internally displaced people’s (IDP) camp in Paicho sub-county, Aswa county, Gulu district on Sunday.

“We should come out like other leaders and condemn Kony for the atrocities he has inflicted on our people, because youth are the most affected group by this insurgency,” Okwakau said.

He urged youth who can reach Kony and his fighters still in the bush to tell them to use the remaining period of the amnesty to come out.

“It is difficult to smile with the problems our people are facing in the camps. Let the war end so that our youth leave the camp life,” he said.

He said under his leadership, the NYC would help the youth in Acholi who have suffered during the 18-year old war.

“We can’t allow the government to abandon its people when there is good leadership. We shall continue advocating for our youth up-country, unlike the past NYC leadership who only stayed in Kampala until the end of their terms,” Okwakau said.
