The Conservative Party (CP) has said Parliament should reject the Government’s White Paper on constitutional amendments because it does not mirror all the wishes of Ugandans.

John Ken Lukyamuzi, the secretary general and other senior party officials appeared Wednesday before Parliament’s committee on legal and parliamentary affairs that is collecting views on the White Paper.

The group said it was against dual citizenship because it would make people less committed to their country.

“The White Paper was not published in good faith. It is unconstitutional and should be rejected by MPs and thrown in the dustbin. It is a distortion and fabrication of people’s views,” Lukyamuzi said.

He said Parliament should debate the constitutional amendments on the basis of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) report.

“If the report is too big to be handled by Parliament then Ssempebwa (CRC chairman) should make a summary,” he said.

He said addressing legal issues on the change from the Movement to multipartyism was being deliberately delayed to enable President Yoweri Museveni get a third term in office.
