Sembule Group of Companies will spend over $1m (sh1.74b) to purchase modern electronic equipment in a bid to revive the assembling plant for televisions, radios and telephones.

“We started with trade in the 1990s, then moved to assembling. We want to add more value. That is why we are starting manufacturing of casings for the three products,” the group’s director, Christopher Sembuya, said in an interview at Nalukolongo on Thursday.

Sembuya said they would assemble colour television sets which use batteries so that the rural folk can access them.

“The over $1m project is targeting the local and the regional market.

We are preparing to produce 50,000 radios and 150,000 television sets and finally reach 500,000 sets monthly,” he said.
Sembuya said there are adulterated radio sets with their logo, which are imported from Dubai.
