HOW times change.
When Egyptian Mohammed Abbas stepped foot in the country as Cranes coach last October, FUFA president Denis Obua and his cohorts were common figures around him.

Abbas is now shocked that his so-called ‘bosses’ are now shunning and keeping a distance from him.

Whoever he calls, does not pick the phone since they now all know his cell phone number.

“Am shocked, they promise to call me but nothing. I call nothing, what’s this?” Abbas asked yesterday in the aftermath of the federation’s ‘dilly dallying’ tactics in the past couple of weeks.

“People here do not want success. When I had just come, the Egyptian Embassy lobbied for corporate sponsorship to support me with the Cranes but all have decided to pullback. Cairo International Bank were ready but were disappointed,” Abbas said.

Whereas FUFA will want to look to the positives and make the public believe that Abbas’ acquisition was a radical step in reviving Ugandan football, the Egyptian himself disagreed.

Abbas, who has since been kept redundant at Namboole Hotel, disclosed that with or without him, the future of Ugandan football is grim.

“I do not see Ugandan football going anywhere unless the people in charge become smart in the way things are done. People are not straight here, it’s really sad,” said Abbas.

Abbas said FUFA were even making false allegations that he had signed a three-year deal.
“I have never signed a contract with FUFA. I was told it was supposed to be a three-year deal but I have not been given anything,” Abbas added.

His revelations contradicted what the Cranes working committee and FUFA general secretary Haruna Mawanda conveyed last week.
The working committee had said Abbas had been given a six-month casual working contract.

“Uganda will not achieve anything if the people supposed to run the game in the country do not say the truth and are not committed. The likes of Cameroon, Nigeria are where they are because they put in much.”

FUFA were meeting late last night to decide on Abbas’ request to have Jackson Mayanja as his assistant.
