A bodaboda cyclist died and six people were injured in an accident on Tuesday.
A Fuso truck, UAE 829, which was carrying fish, rammed into a taxi at the Spear motors junction in Nakawa, Kampala.
The motorcycle, which was beyond recognition, was trapped below the engine of the truck.
The dead was identified as James Wasswa, 30. His head was smashed.
The truck driver, Edward Musiitwa, 32, who was allegedly drunk, tried to flee but was arrested by a police constable, Milton Tukamushabe.
A Jinja Road police officer, Monica ndirugendawa, said the accident occurred at 8:00am when Musiitwa apparently lost control of the truck, hitting the cyclist and a taxi.
“I was standing at the junction when the speeding truck hit the cyclist and the taxi. It also hit other vehicles,” she said adding that Musiitwa’s alcohol level was high.
The injured were Jennifer Wandera and her daughter Janet, Xavier Felix, Nambalirwa, Emmanuel Kirabo and Moses Kigozi.
The taxi driver, John Muhwezi, said the passengers were not seriously injured.
A witness, however, said they were injured and added that he saw some people in a pool of blood.
The front part of the taxi was badly damaged.
When The New Vision visited the scene, the two vehicles were stuck in a trench close to a vocational institute.
