THE Government will start issuing one licence to information and communication technology (ICT) companies which offer different types of services, Uganda Communications Commission’s executive director, Patrick Masambu, has said.
“Unlike today when we are issuing different licences for different services like data processing, voice communication and Internet, by July next year, there will be a unified licence,” Masambu said recently at the closure of a forum at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
He said introduction of the unified licence was in line with the International Telecommunication Union’s new programme.
Masambu said the Government was considering opening up the ICT market when the duopoly of service providers ends next July.
“We want to allow more players and have stiffer competition to enable Ugandans have the services at very low rates,” he said.
