THE New Vision has joined a number of corporate bodies that have registered for the MTN Kampala Marathon due on Sunday.

Registration for both teams (sh0.5m) and individuals (sh5000) is expected to end today.
Over 30 corporate bodies have entered teams to the event, whose main goal is to create an annual international road-running event that attracts broad based local and international participation and also assist charitable causes. Each team is made up of five runners.

Runners from Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda are also expected to grace the marathon.
Winner in both men and women races will walk off with sh3m cash prizes.

A 10km race will also run alongside the marathon with the winners walking off with sh0.8m each.

The money got from the corporate bodies will go to Red Cross’ Mama Bag to help expecting mothers in the Internally Displaced People’s camps in the war ravaged northern Uganda.

According to Red Cross’ information officer Lydia Mirembe, companies that include Monitor, Radio Buganda, BAT, MTN, Nile Bank and Sheraton have registered for the event.
“Most companies have entered more than three teams while others are still registering. The right number will be when registration closes,” said Mirembe.

Information about the marathon can be got on www.mtnmarathon.com website.
