SHELL Uganda has pledged sh30m for the 2004 Shell U-16 football tournament that will swing into action on December 4 countrywide.

The leading petroleum company announced its sponsorship at the launch of the Friends of Football (FOF) U-16 organised tournament yesterday at Shell Bugolobi.
“We are privileged to be associated with this tournament and this partnership is our third this year,” Grace Kavuma, the company’s finance manager said.
“We at Shell are happy with the organisers and their level of transparency that is why we have continued with our support.”

The package includes trophies for the respective winners in the annual tournament, transport for all participating teams, match officials, certificates, medals,
accommodation, transport and meals.

FOF, the brains behind the youth tournament that they started in 1997, have mapped out 12 zones.
Eliminations will last three weeks before the zones converge in Kampala for the champions league that climaxes with a final in January.

The regions include Mbarara, Mbale, Jinja, Hoima, Buganda, Arua, Soroti, Masindi and Kampala all to enter two sides.

FOF’s Richard Kiboneka said the event is a nursery for future national sides.
